Reasonable Adjustments for Mental Health

Acas has published new guidance and resources to help support employers and employees when handling reasonable adjustments for mental health at work.

As Acas says, it’s important for employers to take an employee's mental health problem seriously and with the same care as a physical illness.

The advice covers:

- What reasonable adjustments for mental health are;
- Examples of reasonable adjustments for mental health;
- Requesting reasonable adjustments for mental health;
- Responding to requests for reasonable adjustments;
- Managing employees with reasonable adjustments; &
- Reviewing policies with mental health in mind.

Managing Work-Related Stress

Acas has also launched new advice for employers on managing stress after a third of British workers (33%) believe that their organisation is not effective at managing work-related stress.

Acas advice for employers on managing stress at work includes:

• look out for any signs of stress among staff.
• be approachable, available and have an informal chat with staff who are feeling stressed.
• respect confidentiality and be sensitive and supportive when talking to staff about work-related stress.
• communicate any internal and external help available to staff such as financial advice if the cost of living is a cause of stress.
